Greens - We offer week-long 25% green fee discounts the week of greens aeration and recovery. 18-hole greens will be aerated October 5 & 6, with green fees discounted through October 13. 9-hole greens will be aerated October 13, with green fees discounted through October 20.
Tees and Fairways - We will spike tees and fairways instead of aerating them. Spiking does not pull any soil from the ground and causes much less mess. As a result, the course is playable immediately after a tee or fairway has been spiked. Beginning September 21, we will spike 1-2 fairways a day and 2 tees a day. We should finish spiking on all 27 holes around mid-October.
Website Updates - Throughout the Fall our website will feature aeration updates, complete with daily photos of current green, tee and fairway conditions. Our goal - no aeration surprises for Village Links golfers.
Aeration Report for Tuesday October 6 - All 18-hole course greens have been aerated. Ten of the greens have been topdressed with sand; eight greens have yet to be topdressed. The topdressed greens are wet and sloppy due to clumping sand. Putting conditions will improve daily as the grass grows. A 25% green fee discount remains in effect all week.
Aeration Report for Wednesday October 7 - All 18-hole course greens have been aerated and topdressed with sand. Putting is better than yesterday, with more sand filling the aeration holes. Putting conditions will improve daily as the grass grows. A 25% green fee discount remains in effect all week.
Aeration Report as of Thursday October 29 - Greens on both courses have been aerated and topdressed with sand. Putting conditions continue to improve. The of recovery was slower than usual due to cool temperatures, but things have improved a lot in the last week. Because it took longer than usual for the aerated greens to heal over, off-season green fees (25% off) remain in effect for the remainder of 2009.

This is #6 green on the 18-hole course immediately
after being aerated Monday October 5

The same spot on #6 green 48-hours after aeration. By Wednesday October 7, dryer weather allowed us to sweep more sand into the aeration holes and the grass has started to fill in.

The same spot on #6 green 7-days after aeration. By Monday October 12, conditions have improved a bit, even though it is cool and cloudy. The grass is not filling in as quickly as we would like - the low temperatures have made the grass a bit sluggish for mid-October.

Monday October 19 - Cool temperatures continue to slow the rate of recovery.

Tuesday October 20 was cloudy, but the warmer temperatures are encouraging the grass to grow over the aeration holes. Things keep improving just a little bit every day.

Wednesday October 28 showed steady improvement in putting conditions. in the last few day, the greens have just started growing to the poin that mowing improves the putting surface.
